Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
What system is the Miss Napa County Scholarship Organization a part of?
Our program is an official preliminary to the Miss California/Miss America Scholarship Organization. Oftentimes it is confused with the Miss USA/Miss Universe system (owned and operated by Donald Trump).
What can I perform for “talent”?
You may perform any talent that is stage appropriate. Examples of past talent performances have ranged from singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument to ventriloquism, monologue, and tae kwon do. We all have a talent, it is just a matter of identifying your talent.
How long must I perform for my talent portion of the competition?
Each contestant is allowed a maximum of 2 minutes on stage. Your music accompaniment, if any, must be cut within that timeframe.
What is a platform?
A platform is an issue, charity, or cause that you care deeply about and promote throughout your reign as a local/state/national delegate. Once chosen, the titleholder uses their stature to address community service organizations, business and civic leaders, the media and others, about their platform issues.
How do I choose a platform?
Each delegate chooses a platform according to her convictions. Some delegates may have been touched with tragedy, disease, or abuse, and want to promote those charitable organizations. Choose the platform that you are the most comfortable with and feel that you can make the biggest difference in the lives of others.
What paperwork do I need to participate?
All contestants will need a contestant resume and platform. At rehearsal, there will be a step by step workshop teaching the contestants how to create them. Examples of these items can be found at www.misscalifornia.org and at www.misscalifornia.org/teen/teen_home.html.
How can I become a volunteer or part of the committee?
We are always looking for volunteers and committee members! Our program is run solely by volunteers. If you would like to get involved, please send us an email at missnapaorg@aol.com We would be happy to hear from you.
What are the contestant time commitments before the competition?
Contestants are expected to attend weekly rehearsals beginning January 11, 2009. These rehearsals are mandatory and are meant to help prepare the contestant before competition.
What are my time commitments if I am selected as Miss Napa County or Napa County’s Outstanding Teen?
Miss Napa County and Napa County’s Outstanding Teen are both the official hostess for the Napa County. They attend many events, to include but not limited to, public speaking engagements, performances, civic events, charity fundraisers and galas, community fairs and festivals, parades, local area pageants, and other special meet and greet events. They frequently meet community leaders, elected officials, and other distinguished members of the community.
Will this program interfere with school?
Education is our number one priority! Rehearsals and appearances are scheduled in advance in consideration of your school schedule. But, as with any commitment, balance is the key to success.
